- I am using keepass portable (have it on a usb). I want to be able to use it for mac and windows. I tried following the steps on keepass' website (install mono on the usb and run it and the keepass app on top of mono with a batch file) but this lacked one thing.It didn't help me with the fact the keepass app was an exe so it would't open on OS X.

KeePassX uses the KeePass 2 (.kdbx) password database format as the native format. It can also import (and convert) the older KeePass 1 (.kdb) databases.[3]
