- We've packed this article full of tips for using Safari on the Mac, from the basics such as how to get the latest version of Safari, how to use tabs in Safari, and how to never see another ad.
- Nearly every web browser comes with a Find tool, which allows you to scan the page for matching words or phrases. You can also use Google's advanced search operators to perform a search for a word or phrase on all of the pages of a specific site. You can use this in conjunction with the Find tool to locate a word anywhere on the internet.
One of the most useful shortcuts is one I rarely remembered until recently. That is “Find” – Control>f (on Windows); Command>f on the Mac the easy way to search for a word or phrase on a web page, in a Word document and/or even in an email post.
Since so many people are using iPads, I went on a search to see if individual web pages could also be searched for specific words or phrases when using the iPad. I was excited to learn that, in fact, Safari web pages do have a search function within them.
Following is what I discovered (from the Tutorial that I plan to include in my upcoming book with Interviews with Seniors Using iPads):
How to Search a Web Page on the iPad –
Open the web page on which you want to do a search for a word or phrase. In the example below I had TechnologyforSeniorsMadeEasy.com/communicating-for-seniors/how-to-easily-save-voice-recordings-and-photos-using-evernote/
When I copy a book title from a web page into Word for Mac 2016, Word will not allow me to change anything I copied. Instead, every time I try to place the stylus and hit enter, Word will open Safari. I would like to know if there is any Mac Safari plugin to block any web page containing a specific word in its url or in its content. For example, suppose we take the word 'abc', the following link must be blocked: wwww.dfrrraabc.com. A web page containing 'abc' in its content must also be blocked.
STEPS:
1 – Tap the URL to highlight it. You may need to do a “select all” and “cut.”
2 – Then type your search word or phrase in that space. For this example I typed “recording.”
3 – The search gives options to go to various web pages AND as you go down the page you’ll see an “On This Page” option, with “Find “[your search word or phrase]”. To the right you will see either “no matches” or the number of matches.
4 – Simply tap on “Find….” and you will be back on the page with all of the words or phrases for which you searched highlighted.
5 – Note: At the bottom of the page, on the left, there are brackets, < >, and a notation on the number of matches found. You can either scroll down the page to look for other highlight OR tap a “move right” or “move left” symbol to be take to the next or previous word or phrase.
6 – Note also: In the box on the right the word or phrase for which you searched is in a search box. You can “x” out the work for which you searched and add a new one to continue your search on the page.
Continuing from here, I then checked my iPhone to see if, and how, we can do a search on individual web pages on the iPhone. What I found, follows:

Instructions are very similar to those for the iPad. The main difference is that there is not the added search option once you are back on the page.
1 – Go to the web page. For this example I am on a page on PhotographyandTransformation.com, another of my websites.
2 – Highlight the URL at the top of the page and “cut” it.
3 – Then type in your search word or phrase. I used “treasure” for this page.
4 – The first results you will see are for web pages with that term or phrase. Do NOT tap “Return”. It will take you to the search for various sites.
I run BlueStacks (to get an android emulator) in Bluestack I run KeePassDroid and Dropbox. Just wanted to share the way I acess my keepass file on my macbook. Keepass for mac os x.
5 – Move down to the “On This Page”. Tap on that which brings you back to the original page from which you started.
6 – Again, your searched for word or term is highlighted. Use the “move” symbols at the left on the bottom of the page to navigate through.
7 – Tapping on “Done” will remove all of the highlights.
8 – If you want to search for something else on the page, repeat the above process.

In Apple's Safari web browser, there are several ways to make viewing web pages easier on the eyes. All of them involve adjusting the font size or the zoom level that Safari applies when it loads web page content, which can be helpful if you're using a small screen or a large display set at a high resolution.To increase or decrease the zoom level of both text and images when viewing web pages in Safari, press Command and the + (plus) or - (minus) keys. You can also click on View in Safari's menu bar and select Zoom In or Zoom Out.
Alternatively, you can add zoom buttons to Safari's interface: Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on a space in the Safari toolbar and click Customize Toolbar..

. Then drag the Zoom buttons in the dropdown to the space you just clicked on the toolbar. Click Done to finish.If you want to keep images at the same size and only adjust web page font size on the fly, press Option-Command and the + or - keys. You can also hold down the Option key and click on View in the Safari menu bar, which changes the Zoom options to Make Text Bigger and Make Text Smaller.
Safari will remember your zoom and font size settings until you clear your History. To do so, click Safari in the menu bar, select Clear History.., then click the Clear History button.
Set the Zoom Level for a Specific Website
Once the zoom level is set up for a particular site, Safari applies it automatically whenever you visit it. Here's how it's done.
- Navigate to the site that you want to adjust the zoom level for.
- Right-click on the URL or website name that appears in the address bar, and select Settings for This Website. Alternatively, click Safari in the menu bar and you'll see the same option just below Preferences.
- Click the Zoom Level percentage and select a new level from the dropdown menu. (Anything greater than 100 zooms in; anything less than 100 zooms out.)
Set the Zoom Level for All Web Pages
- In Safari's menu bar, select Safari -> Preferences...
- Click the Websites tab.
- Click Page Zoom in the General column.
- Clear any Configured Websites in the list by highlighting them all with your mouse button and then selecting Remove.
- Click the When visiting other websites pop-up menu and choose a percentage to suit.
Set Your Own Zoom Level With a Style Sheet
If none of Safari's zoom level increments sit right with your eyes, here's a way to set your own percentage.

- Open the TextEdit application.
- Click New Document.
- In TextEdit's menu bar, select Format -> Make Plain Text.
- Copy and paste the following CSS code into the file, changing the zoom number to your preferred percentage level:

} - In TextEdit's menu bar, select File -> Save...
- Name the file safari zoom.css or whatever you like, just make sure it retains a .css suffix.
- Choose a location for the file and click Save.
- Back in Safari, select Safari -> Preferences.. in the menu bar.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click the Style sheet dropdown menu and select Other...
- Navigate to the location of your saved CSS file, select it, and click Choose.
Force Websites to Use Bigger Font Sizes
Finally, there's an option in Safari that lets you force websites to display text using a minimum font size, without affecting the zoom level.
- In Safari's menu bar, select Safari -> Preferences...
- Select the Advanced tab.
- In the Accessibility section, check the box next to Never use font sizes smaller than: and select a font size in the dropdown.
